Xiaomi launched the Xiaomi 12 series on 28 December, including the Xiaomi 12, 12 Pro and 12X. Detailed specifications of these on this link are located in. The focus of the presentation was on the Pro model, but the 12X has become really popular in this short time.

The Jingdong Mall, or JD.com for short, is one of the largest retail stores in China, where Xiaomi's new products have started to be sold. After buying the Xiaomi 12Xs, the feedback came in droves and the satisfaction rating for the product was 98%. Not only is the Xiaomi 12X selling well, but they also like the Xiaomi 12X, and that's not a bad trend.

There are a few small differences between the Xiaomi 12 and 12X, such as the 12X not being able to fast charge wirelessly, but the main difference is the soul of the devices. The Xiaomi 12 is powered by the brand new Snapdragon 8 Gen1, while the Xiaomi 12X is powered by a Snapdragon 870. The Xiaomi 12X 8/128 is 165k, while the same version of the 12 is 190k.

So, the 12X 14% is cheaper than the 12, so the user will not feel any real difference between the two phones. A top phone has top hardware, obviously, but it's also clear that the average user doesn't need such brutal power. What they want is a display that is just as nice and, most importantly for me, a camera that is just as good. In the context of a global chip shortage, this is not a bad idea.

The power of the Snapdragon 870 is also underused by the average user, as even an 870 is too much for photos, Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, Gmail, etc. So you wouldn't have a power machine in the hands of many (moneyed) users, while not using half of the processor, but still being able to take just as good pictures. The trend for computers is not to always want the best. I see far more new iPhones in people's hands than MacBook Pros. Yes, the MacBook Pro is expensive, so they don't buy it because they don't need it, but then why do they buy the new iPhone?

What do you think, dear reader:

Would you buy a top chip phone from 1-2 years ago with the same display, camera, etc. if it was cheaper than a 15%?
