Whereas a few years ago it was science fiction that Chinese brands would dominate the smartphone market, today it is accepted that respected Eastern brands are competing for our wallets. Huawei is one of them, as is Xiaomi.
It was foreseeable what would happen next
After Huawei has lost Google services in 2019, in an extremely difficult situation in the West, as these countries are highly dependent on the US tech giant.
Without Google, life is bad. At least for Huawei
Xiaomi has taken advantage of the situation, writing on the box of its newer phones that it provides easy access to these services, offering an alternative for Huawei fans.
But the other manufacturer was not idle, they decided, develop their own operating system called Harmony OS. The aim was to create a modern system that runs on all devices.
However, the project progressed slowly and it eventually became clear that nothing really happened.
Android is an open source system, so technically anyone can modify it and create their own. Huawei has finally started down this path. Instead of their own system, they patched the existing Android.
Practically rebranded Android 10, which is the basis of the current beta version.
There's no point in doing the same thing with a different logo, especially since from a security perspective, it's Android 2019 with all its bugs and vulnerabilities.
In their defence, they have not yet been widely published, so maybe they will get to Android 11 by 2022 :D
So Huawei is in a tight spot and Xiaomi is soaring.
