Counterpoint Technology Market Research has published the latest survey, the European smartphone market for the third quarter of 2021. Xiaomi performed quite well, but there are still some surprises in the survey.

Counterpoint Research 2021 Q3

Counterpoint's Research Director Jan Stryjak said.Xiaomi, Apple and OPPO all gained significant share last year. Xiaomi continued to grow well in most European markets. OPPO strengthened well in Western Europe, helped by its recent merger with OnePlus. Apple, meanwhile, was boosted by the launch of the iPhone 13 towards the end of the quarter. The iPhone 12 was released in early Q4 2020. Samsung retained its number one position after largely recovering from supply problems at the beginning of the year. But it continued to fall year on year and sequentially. Still, it could have been worse had the Galaxy Z Flip 3 not been popular, especially in Western Europe.

Samsung again won the third quarter of 2021 in terms of phone sales. Although the compared to last year 16% down in sales, it still holds its number one position with a market share of 30.4%. Xiaomi again took second place with a 23.6% share, up 51% from last year. This is very good news, as the company is not new to the market and did not start from scratch, but started from a very good third place last year.

Stryjak added: "Realme is one of the fastest growing brands in Europe and is firmly in the top five suppliers, with strong sales in Russia, Spain and Italy. Vivo is also growing fast, albeit from a smaller base, while Motorola and Nokia are making comebacks. HONOR has also targeted the European market in hopes of a turnaround, making its first appearance in the region in over a year in October.
