According to the Mobile Smart Terminal Ecological Alliance, the migration of Android applications to 64-bit architecture needs to be further promoted. To improve the user experience, the members of the alliance, the OPPO, the vivo and Xiaomi have jointly announced that they will no longer list 32-bit apps in their app stores from April 2022.
According to reports, OPPO, vivo and Xiaomi, will push this process in phases starting from April 2022.From April 2022, new apps in app stores will no longer be listed as a separate 32-bit app bundle, but can be uploaded with compatibility bundles or dual bundles. Gaming apps will be temporarily unlimited.
The association says 64-bit architecture is critical to improving the end-device experience. The latest flagship mobile chip platforms, such as Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and MTK Dimensity 9000, require 64-bit applications to perform at their best. In the future, mobile chip platforms will gradually weaken support for 32-bit applications.
We are aware that supporting 64-bit devices is the only way to enable Android applications to use more than 4 GB of RAM address space, use wider registers and higher precision in data processing, and gain enhanced security features. The iOS platform already completely abandoned 32-bit apps in 2017 and fully implemented 64-bit-only apps.
Before everyone starts burying the three brands again, but especially Xiaomi, the Google Play you can still get all the apps from the store. This step only applies to Chinese app stores!
