It is not the first time that we have heard rumours that manufacturers want to do away with physical buttons or connection points. Although buttons are essential to the life of a phone, as far as technology is concerned. Android owners know that you can only enter Recovery and Fastboot mode by pressing 2 physical buttons. Or from one to the other, tethered to PC, by issuing a command from command prompt.

The For Redmi phones we're used to having a fingerprint reader on the side, in the power button, which works fantastic, but we don't always want to unlock the phone just to turn on the screen. But of course they've invented the screen double tap so you don't have to press a physical button. This uses energy, because you're constantly tapping and sometimes you open the screen even when you don't want to.

The Xiaomi Mobile Software Co., Ltd. today patented its utility model for side fingerprints. According to the text of the patent, the fingerprint reader, which is built into the frame of the phone, can be placed on any surface of the phone. Thus, it is not mandatory to use physical buttons. It is not exactly the omission of physical buttons that is intended, although I cannot confirm or deny this. But it also turns out to increase the effective recognition range of side fingerprint recognition. This is advantageous for improving the recognition efficiency of the fingerprint recognition module, so that the user can easily unlock the phone while holding it in his hand.

Until now, Xiaomi phones didn't have a trendy side fingerprint reader, either on the back or under the screen. But in Redmi and Poco phones, it has been there for years. In the new Xiaomi phones it can now be placed on the side, but not under the power button. Where do you think would be the best place for it to be hidden in the bezel on the side?
